SCAM SMS – From (202) 735-6532: …claim your free Apple Product
Today I got this text message:
Congratulations, your number has made you Apple’s Winner! Go to http://www.apple.ca.wstw.cc and enter code: 65535 to claim your Free Apple Product!

I at first saw only apple.ca when I received the text message, because I was very busy when I got it and I really thought I won something. Maybe an iTunes credit or something like that. The reason I thought this might be something real was because I recently went to an Apple store, to get a new Battery for my old MacBook. But when I had time to actually look at the text message I was very disappointed, because this was of course not the real apple url, it was some fake url which will get forwarded to some SCAM website.
To be able to show you the site you can expect I entered the url from the text message and here is a screenshot of the site:
As you can see yourself in the address field the http://www.apple.ca.wstw.cc gets forwarded to http://wstw.cc where you can find a picture of an iPad and a box to fill in the mystic code.
I opened the address again, but this time with a secure browser window. I entered the code which I received via the text message and got this pop up message…

So I deleted the last number to make it a 4 digit code and got forwarded to this domain (Screenshot):
After I came to this site I went back to the fake apple address and tried another random 4 digit code and landed again on the same site.
Unfortunately I don’t know if this is just a coincidence. It is possible that the owner of the fake apple site maybe signed up for some sort of affiliate program and get paid per visitor they refer to ziinga.
It is also not surprising that searching for the phone number brought up some additional information about this scam as well as WoT ranked the fake apple site very bad. My advise is to ignore this text message. There is on their website a “Unsubscribe” link, but unfortunately I assume this is more to confirm that your phone number / Email is in use and after trying to unsubscribe I am afraid you might get even more scam messages.
I hope this post will help lots of you not to fall for this scam.

“Starting soon, your stats page will be on the WordPress.com homepage only”
If you use the wordpress.com blogging service you may have seen this notification already “Starting soon, your stats page will be on the WordPress.com homepage only“, but have you tried the new stats page? I did and it is great. More information, easy to navigate and it looks fantastic. Of course you can still see the “views all-time”, the “views today” and the “views on the busiest day” as well as switching the statistic from “Days” to “Weeks” or to “Months”, but now you can also see for example “Views by Country”, which you can find below the overall statistic.
Before I go into more detail what kind of information you can find below the overall statistic I would like to mention a cool feature. The new WordPress stats page allows you to arrange as well as minimize your extra stats boxes. So you can decide which information are more important to you and need to be directly under the overall statistic and which details can be further below.
The new Facebook Page Timeline
As you may have noticed since the 30th March 2012 Facebook changed all Facebook Pages to the new Timeline format. If this was a good decision is something I don’t know. I personally was excited when I first saw the announcement and changed two pages, I am the administrator for, to the new format, without knowing what I am getting myself into. Soon after the change I did realize some good and also some, in my opinion, bad changes that would effect the Facebook Pages I administrate.
For the better I must say that the overall design is much nicer, well at least that is my opinion. I also like the fact that you can have a big picture on the top and a smaller picture as your profile picture. This is great because now you can create or choose a very nice image for the top and for example your Logo as your profile image. The only downside is that you can not really create a nice Banner which you can also use to advertise your stuff… This made me wonder why Facebook did not allow to do this. I mean it is the Facebook page of your business, isn’t it?
Which brings me to the downside of the new Facebook Page Timeline…
The new MAC OSX Lion, released on the 20th July 2011
This morning I thought, hey 10 more days and July is over, when will Lion be released? So I checked the Apple website and saw that Lion is finally available in the Apple App Store. I must admit, that I was a bit disappointed that I haven’t gotten an Email from Apple, even if I have signed up for more information regarding Lion, but hey, it is finally there.
You can download the new MAC OSX Lion direct from the Apple App Store. The size is 3.5 GB, the price is US$ 29.99 and also important to know is that you need to purchase the OS just once, even if you have more than one computer. But don’t forget to check if your MAC fits the requirements before purchasing the new OS.
Apple recommends to backup your files before installing Lion. You also have to make sure that you have the latest version of Snow Leopard on your computer.

Apple – 2011 Apple Worldwide Developers Conference
Last weekend I had some time to watch the almost 2h long – 2011 Apple Worldwide Developers Conference – video on YouTube and in that video Apple announced lots of amazing things. The first part was of course about the new Mac OS X, called Lion. Based on Apples announcement Lion will have 250 new features, but in the video they mentioned just the 10 key features. Understandable, because they wanted to talk about the new iOS 5 and iCloud as well.
